The Area Director of Business Development (ADBD) is responsible for developing and implementing business development strategies within an assigned market to generate qualified, non-paid professional referrals, attract more seniors to Sunrise, and position Sunrise as a preferred provider. The ADBD also drives strategies related to local paid referral partners to generate third-party referrals and move-ins. Additionally, the ADBD supports and mentors Directors of Sales in the market on best practices for professional outreach and business development.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
Responsibilities:


  • Facilitates ongoing product-service education to trade organizations, hospital departments, physicians, and other healthcare entities.
  • Targets referrals from professional communities, associations, and providers servicing various levels of care.
  • Coordinates community team participation in professional societies and activities to generate leads.
  • Identifies new business opportunities and customer call points for qualified leads and move-ins.
  • Maintains professional relationships within the community.
  • Establishes and manages key referral source relationships to ensure a steady stream of qualified referrals.
  • Develops account plans aligned with market priorities and collaborates with community teams on service delivery and issue resolution.
  • Organizes marketing efforts such as trade shows, brochures, and community events to generate leads.
  • Communicates regularly with community teams about ongoing initiatives and activities.
  • Participates in sales meetings, maintains visit schedules, and reports on referral activity.
  • Understands legal aspects of sales contracts and state regulations regarding admissions and discharges.
  • Monitors budgets, processes expenses, and understands internal costs related to resident care programs.
  • Participates in training, stays updated on regulations, and ensures compliance.
  • Partners in driving strategies for referral generation and supports sales team coaching.
  • Maintains required training and certifications to meet Sunrise standards.

    Qualifications:

    • College degree or equivalent experience preferred.
    • 3-5 years of consultative B2B sales experience, preferably in healthcare or professional development.
    • Proven success in account management and business growth.
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
    • Ability to identify and pursue new business opportunities.
    • Proficiency in computer applications (Microsoft Office, Sunrise systems).
    • Flexibility to work hours that meet customer needs and work independently.
    • Good judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
